New Delhi: The Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation has received the National Tourism Awards (2010-11) of the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India. Delhi Tourism chairman Manish Chattrath and MD & CEO, Delhi Tourism, G.G. Saxena, received the award for Best Heritage Walk Category from the chief guest of the ceremony, Ms Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, the President of India.
The awards held on Wednesay at Vigyan Bhawan had eminent presence of Mr Subodh Kant Sahai, Minister for Tourism, Govt. of India; Guest of Honour Sultan Ahamed, Minister for State for Tourism, among others.
National Tourism awards are presented every year by Ministry of Tourism to various segments of the travel and tourism industry in recognition of their respective fields.
Delhi Tourism and INTACH India (Delhi Chapter) have been regularly organizing Heritage Walks since 2005. These Walks are conducted in the lesser known Heritage area of Delhi to make tourists and local people aware about the importance of their environment and help them develop a harmonious relationship with it.
Mehrauli Archaeological Park, Chandni Chowk, Lodi Gardens, Nizamuddin, Hauz Khas are the places where these walks are conducted to draw the citizens and tourists into these areas of rich cultural and architectural heritage. Delhi Tourism and INTACH apart from the Heritage Walk also organize customized walks for tourists and school kids at monuments like Humayun's Tomb, Qutab Minar, Red Fort, Purana Qila etc.
