According to the data released by Grant Thornton India, an accounting and consulting firm, the total merger and acquisitions (M&A) and private equity (PE) deals, including qualified institutional placement (QIP) deals for January 2012 were valued at US$ 1.99 billion (91 Deals).

Moreover, the total value of outbound deals (Indian companies acquiring businesses outside India) in January 2012 was US$ 0.03 billion (9 Deals). The total value of inbound deals ( foreign companies or their subsidiaries acquiring Indian companies) in January 2012 was US$ 0.81 billion (13 Deals).

The total value of domestic deals in January 2012 US$ 0.47 billion (35 Deals). PE deal values amounted to US$ 0.68 billion (34 Deals) in January 2012.

The top 5 M&A sectors were identified as Media, Entertainment & Publishing, Pharma, Healthcare and Biotech, Banking and Financial Services, IT & ITeS and Cement.
