According to the data released by Grant Thornton India, an accounting and consulting firm, the total merger and acquisitions (M&A) and private equity (PE) deals in the month of April 2013 were valued at US$ 2.92 billion (87 deals) as compared to US$ 2.58 billion (97 deals) in the corresponding month of 2012.
Moreover, the total value of outbound deals (Indian companies acquiring businesses outside India) in April 2013 was US$ 0.49 billion (11 deals) as compared to US$ 0.38 billion (7 deals) during the corresponding month in 2012. The total value of inbound deals (foreign companies or their subsidiaries acquiring Indian businesses) in April 2013 were valued at US$ 0.63 billion (13 deals).
The total value of domestic deals in the month of April 2013 were US$ 0.49 billion (10 deals) as compared to US$ 0.46 billion (23 deals) and US$ 0.21 billion (11 deals) during the corresponding month in 2012 and 2011 respectively.
The top 5 M&A sectors were identified as aviation, telecommunication, plastic and chemicals, infrastructure management and IT and ITeS.
