In the future, Indian health care providers, such as Fortis, foresee medical tourism becoming a much-higher-volume business, in which patients’ insurance companies steer them to India because of the nation's reputation for low-cost, high-quality elective surgery. In this way, India hopes to capitalize on its pool of skilled, English- speaking doctors and nurses to better integrate its economy into the global market and to diversify its service exports.
