Strong plus size clothing segment in India

The plus size clothing segment in India has emerged as a significant growth opportunity over the past few years. Retailers have already launched dedicated brands and product chains for this target group. Brands like Future Group promoted aLL, Revolution, Trent's label Gia and Pluss are already operating in this segment. The online clothing giant Myntra.com has recently forayed into the plus size clothing segment with a number of brands, offering sizes ranging from 2XL to 5XL. According to estimates, the plus size clothing segment for women currently stands at US$1.8 billion and is expected to double by 2017.

Globally, international brands like Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren have been associated with full figure fashion with dedicated lines. With close to 46 million people being overweight in India, more companies are expected to launch dedicated brands in the next few years.Clearly, this clothing segment can be expected to register growth consistently in the coming few years.
