According to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), India is expected to record a 10 per cent growth in industrial production during the current financial year (2008-09), as against 8.3 per cent in the previous fiscal.

Better prices for farm produce, increased government spending and remittances from workers in urban areas have helped the fast-moving consumer goods' (FMCG) sector in rural areas to grow by 40 per cent as compared to 25 per cent in urban areas, in the April-June quarter this year.
