The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts is owned and managed by Hotel Leelaventure Ltd which was established in 1983 in Mumbai. The company is a part of The Leela Group whose portfolio includes hotel and resort properties; IT and business parks; as well as, real estate development.

The Group was founded by Late Capt C P Krishnan Nair, Chairman Emeritus and Founder Chairman of Hotel Leelaventure Ltd, who envisioned The Leela as one of the finest Indian luxury hospitality brands. Under his leadership, within a short span of 25 years, the Group has evolved from one hotel, on the outskirts of Mumbai, into a range of eight award-winning properties across the country that celebrate India's diverse geography and architectural history. In the process, The Leela redefined standards of luxury hospitality.

The group has a marketing alliance with US-based Preferred Hotels & Resorts and is a member of the Global Hotel Alliance based in Geneva, Switzerland.
