Alstom T&D bags 30 million euros orders to build substations in Bihar

Kolkata: Alstom T&D India, a unit of French firm Alstom, on Friday said it has secured three orders worth 30 million (about Rs 220 crore) from the Bihar government to build sub-stations in the state.

"This project is part of India's 12th Five-Year Plan to strengthen Bihar's 220 kV transmission network," the company said in a statement. "Built across various locations in Bihar, these substations aim to enhance the capacity of power evacuation systems and improve the power situation. The substations will strengthen the transmission network at 220 kV level with a potential to be further upgraded to 400 kV in future."

Alstom T&D India will construct the sub-stations on turnkey basis. All major equipment will be supplied from Alstom T&D India's manufacturing facilities.

According to the 2011 Census, only 16.4% of Bihar's 19 million households have access to electricity.

Anticipating growth in the energy sector, both state and central governments have planned major investments in T&D sector to improve the power situation in Bihar.
