Balaji Telefilms ties up with Kolkata-based Chhayabani

Mumbai: Television and film production company Balaji Telefilms Ltd on Monday said it had entered into a strategic alliance with Kolkata-based Chhayabani Pvt Ltd to create distinctive and contemporary television content.

Chhayabani Balaji Entertainment Pvt Ltd will be developed as a platform that will initially produce television content and gradually scale up to explore other creative opportunities, the firm said said in a BSE filing.

“Chhayabani is highly acknowledged for its glorious heritage in the area of entertainment, in Kolkata. This collaboration brings together two media houses with distinctive strengths to explore new formats of television presentation, create exciting high-end scripted content, while also attracting high quality talent,” the company said.

Last week, the company announced a tie-up with Indus Media for producing television series for the American market, Mint reported on 18 December.

With the deal, Balaji secured rights to the TV series Brown Nation, a satirical comedy based on the lives of Indian Americans, which is planned for release in 2015.

Balaji’s shares closed the day at Rs69.05, up 2.83% on the BSE, while benchmark Sensex index ended at 27,701.79 points, up 1.21%. The announcement was made after market hours.
