Mumbai: Bengalureans are the most positive when it comes to overall well-being among residents of cities across Asia-Pacific. According to a survey conducted by MasterCard, residents of cities in emerging markets in Asia are generally more positive than those in developed markets in Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia.

MasterCard recently released its first Asia-Pacific Cities Well-Being Index. According to the findings of the survey, Bengaluru, Jakarta, Delhi, Mandalay and Hanoi are the top five among the 33 cities surveyed, when ranked according to the well-being index, which ranks zero as most negative and 100 as most positive.

Apart from Bengaluru at the top spot and Delhi at No. 3, there are two other Indian cities in the list. Chennai is at number 10 between Wuhan and Guangzhou. Mumbai residents are less optimistic than their counterparts at Yangon with the city ranking number 15. Incidentally, the least positive city in Asia is Dhaka which is at number 33 - the bottom of the list.

Participants in the survey were asked questions on four aspects of well-being: work and finances, safety from threats, satisfaction and personal well-being. When it came to family, health, work and financial stress, those in emerging markets (average 65.4) were far more positive than developed markets (51.6). "Overall, people in developed market cities felt much more stress, and were less optimistic when it came to their general health than people in emerging market cities," the report said.

On work and finances, those in emerging markets clocked a score of 71 as against 59.4 in developed markets. But those in developed markets were more positive when it came to keeping up with their bills and savings for big purchases
