Bharti Airtel adds 1.43 million rural subscribers in May

New Delhi: Sunil Mittal-led Bharti Airtel has added a maximum of 1.43 million rural subscribers in May, registering 1.53 per cent growth over previous month, said industry body COAI in a statement.

Vodafone India has added 0.64 million subscribers, a 0.71 per cent growth over previous month, followed by Idea Cellular with 0.79 million, a 1.04 per cent month-on-month growth. Aircel stands at fourth position with 0.22 million net additions in May.

The rural subscriber-base has demonstrated a 1.2 per cent increase over the previous month with 3.47 million additions, taking India's rural users to 300.63 million.

The sector regulator's Performance Indicator report for the quarter ending December 2013 had said that private operators share stood at 89.44 per cent while state-owned BSNL services 10.56 per cent of the total rural subscribers.
