Centre declared National Highways status for 2,000 km state highway in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Government of India has declared National Highway (NH) status for 2,000 km of State Highways in Odisha and will invest Rs 35,000 crore (US$ 5.5 billion) for road development. The investment will be made in phases, wherein work on NH projects worth Rs 10,000 crore (US$ 1.57 billion) will begin before December 2015, while rest of the amount shall be spent next year. Union Roads Transport and Highways Minister Mr. Nitin Gadkari has asked the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed project works in Odisha. Besides, a stretch of 332 km inter-state waterways will be created on Baitarani, Birupa, Mahanadi and Budhabalang rivers.
