Daimler India launches trucks in Trinidad and Tobago

Chennai: Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a wholly owned subsidiary of German auto giant Daimler AG, along with sister company Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, Japan (MFTBC), has launched its India-made trucks in Trinidad and Tobago, making it the twelfth market since DICV started exporting in May 2013.

Under the new Asia Business Model, the Trinidad and Tobago is the first market for DICV's made-in-India trucks in South America.

The trucks will be sold through the exclusive dealer Diamond Motors, an authorized local distributor in Trinidad and Tobago. These trucks are already present in markets like Kenya, Sri Lanka, Zambia and Tanzania with more markets to follow in the region.

The FUSO truck range manufactured at DICV's Oragadam plant comprise five models spanning heavy-duty (25 - 49 tonne referred to as 'FJ', 'FO' & 'FZ') and Medium-duty (9 - 16 tonne referred to as 'FA' & 'FI').

The robust, fuel-efficient trucks are developed to meet the ever demanding customer expectations in growth markets.

Erich Nesselhauf, MD & CEO of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, said, "To start exporting to Trinidad and Tobago reflects once again that we are well on track with our export business. The success of DICV built trucks across markets shows our proficiency in manufacturing trucks in India, which are customized to meet the diverse industry requirements."

Under the umbrella of Daimler Trucks Asia, DICV and MFTBC (Mitsubishi Truck and Bus Corporation) have combined their strength to tap its sales potential further.

While DICV focuses on the Indian market with its brand BharatBenz and caters to countries such as Nepal, which are similar to the Indian market conditions, MFTBC will service the rising demand in the Asian and African regions with its existing portfolio of Mitsubishi-Fuso trucks from its plant in Kawasaki and the robust Fuso trucks produced at Oragadam in Chennai.

With a clear view on the growth potential in South America, DICV is in preparations to establish its presence in this region and will continuously add further markets to expand its reach.
