DSK Hyosung to set up manufacturing plant in Maharashtra

Jaipur: DSK Hyosung will set up a plant in Maharashtra and manufacture most of its brands sold in the country, a top official of the company said here on Monday on the sidelines of its first dealership opening in Jaipur.

"Plans are already in place for a manufacturing facility that will come up in Maharashtra. It will 18 months to build the plant and the rollout of products is likely to happen in two years," Shivapada Ray, chief operating officer of DSK Motowheels.

Currently, DSK Hyosung assembles and sells models that include Aquila 250, GT250R, Aquila PRO ((650cc) and ST 7 (700cc) ranging between Rs 2.9 lakh and Rs 6.12 lakh.

The superbikes may form a fraction of the 14 million two-wheelers sold annually in the country, but the segment is growing at a scorching pace of about 60% attracting newer players to enter the space.

"Ten years ago, there were a couple of companies present in the superbikes segment. But the turbocharged growth has drawn in about 12 players into the segment today," said Ray.

Ray said even though it entered India in 2012, it has the largest dealership network among the CKD (completely knocked down) players and enjoys a market share of 38% in the country.

Hyosung is planning to add 10-15 dealerships in the next financial year mostly in the tier-II cities and introduce two more models in the 250cc segment.
