Embassy Group to invest Rs 1,500 cr in hospitality biz

New Delhi: Bangalore-based Embassy Group is planning to invest about Rs 1,500 crore for the expansion of its hospitality business.

"We have aligned with Hilton for one hotel in Bangalore and we are talking with them for our next hotel at Manyata Tech Park," said Jitu Virwani, chairman and managing director, Embassy Group.

Besides, Embassy Group is in the process of buying out the property on which the Four Seasons hotel is located, entailing an investment of Rs 600 crore. On Thursday, Embassy announced the opening of Hilton hotel in Bangalore, with an investment of Rs 350 crore for a 247 room hotel spread over four acres.

With this, the total rooms operated by the hotel major has gone up to 2,000 in India. The group is also in talks with several other Indian companies to expand its hotel presence in the country.

Embassy Group would open its DoubleTree hotel brand at Agra in October this year and Conrad hotel brand at Pune next year, said Daniel Welk, vice-president, operations - India at Hilton Worldwide. "We are in talks with several Indian companies for opening many of our hotel brands in India. Currently, we have four out of 11 hotel brands in India; will gradually expand the presence."
