Haryana to offer 90% subsidy to promote solar water pumps

Chandigarh: Haryana government is set to offer 90% subsidy to promote solar water pumps of 2 horsepower, 5 HP and 10 HP in the current financial year. Under the initiative, farmers will need to bear just 10% cost while the rest will be shared between the central and state governments as financial assistance for setting up 3,050 such pump sets.

Power consumption in water pumps for agriculture is mainly dependent on coal-based energy. "It will result in addition of 14.64 mw solar capacity," the minister of state for new and renewable energy Banwari Lal said while launching the web portal for online services for grid connected rooftop solar power plants and solar water heating systems. The state government is committed to promoting renewable energy in line with the national goal of 1.75 lakh mw capacity addition by 2022.

"Haryana is going to launch a scheme on solar home systems to meet the energy requirement of people of the state under which 2 LED lamps, one LED tubelight, one DC ceiling fan and mobile charger will be provided with a 150 watt solar panel and 12Vx150Ah battery," said Ashima Brar, director, new and renewable energy.

Brar said that during the current financial year the state government will spend Rs 27 crore on renewable energy and energy conservation programmes in the state. The state has about 330 sunny days and there is great potential for harnessing solar energy in the state, she said.

" Keeping in view the limited waste land in the state, the thrust of the government is to popularise rooftop solar plants with net metering which not only helps in saving in the electricity bill of the consumer but also helps power utilities meet the energy requirement of other sectors," Brar said.

A solar plant of 1 mw is required for about 5 acres of land, she said.

Brar said that the department has set a target of installation of rooftop solar power projects of 70 mw in the state during the current financial year with 30% subsidy, with maximum limit of Rs 20,000 per kilowatt. The implementation of such a large programme involves huge efforts for which the online system for approval and disbursal of subsidy will be useful, she said.
