HCL Infosystems forays into Oman with MoU with Omantel

New Delhi/Muscat: HCL Infosystems on Monday announced its foray into Oman after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Omantel, a significant player in telecom and related services in the Arab nation.

Under the terms of the MoU, Omantel and HCL Infosystems will collaborate to facilitate IT transformation involving a range of services including enhancing Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine to Machine (M2M) infrastructure, delivering e-services, portal content management, and enhanced levels of network optimization and security. In addition, HCL Infosystems will also become Omantel's strategic partner to execute the Company's IoT business objectives and will assist in skills training for Omani nationals.

"We will bring the right domain experts into the partnership and commit their availability for meetings and workshops in Oman. The idea is to enable technical know-how while Omantel will provide us access to their customer base and make required investment into creating infrastructure for delivering this solution," said Rangarajan Raghavan, joint president & executive sponsor - globalization & strategic operations, HCL Infosystems. This MoU is part of Omantel's strategy to increase business agility and deliver innovative offerings and e-Government solutions to support growth in the Oman economy. According to Raghavan, Oman's ICT industry is worth $250 million, of which Omantel commands two-third in respect of telecom and related services. "It is vital that we create new synergies with industry leaders to deliver the next generation of services and innovations for the continued evolution of Omantel's 3.0 transformation strategy. The agreement with HCL Infosystems demonstrates our objective to spearhead the digital transformation in Oman, raising awareness on smart homes, innovative business and e-Government services. HCL Infosystems will work closely with Omantel's newly formed ICT unit to achieve the objectives set out in the agreement," the CEO of Omantel, Talal Said Al-Mamari said in a statement. Al-Mamari had started discussions on the MoU with HCL during his visit to India along with the Industry Minister of Oman two years ago. With this MoU, HCL Infosystems a part of HCL Enterprise, a $ 7 billion company has expanded its global presence to enter the Oman market. The company is already present in countries like Singapore, UAE and Qatar.

"The plan is to build a good base in Oman and consolidate its presence in the current markets instead of further expansion," says Raghavan.
