India and Bhutan to strengthen cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors

New Delhi: India and Bhutan agree to strengthen the strategic cooperation in the field of Agriculture & allied sectors between the two countries. An assurance was given by the Agriculture Minister, Shri Radha Mohan Singh that utmost priority will be accorded by the Government of India to the various proposals which were discussed by the Prime Minister of India during his recent visit to Bhutan to his Bhutanese counterpart Shri Lyonopo Yeshey Dorji, here today.

In his opening address, Shri Radha Mohan Singh laid stress on the warm and neighbourly relationship which the two countries enjoyed, based on shared strategic perspective, transparency, utmost trust and sensitivity to each others’vital interest.

In his remarks, the Agriculture Minister of Bhutan said that Prime Minister Modi’s B to B “Bharat to Bhutan” and “Bhutan to Bharat” mantra will be the cornerstone of India Bhutan relationship. He invited Agriculture Minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh to visit Bhutan in the near future to see the positive impact of development interventions with India’s support in Bhutan.

The delegation of Bhutan comprised of Mr. Naiten Wangehuk, Chief Livestock Officer, DOL, Ms. Pema Yuden, Chief Marketing Officer, DAMC, Mr. Ganesh Bdr. Chettri, Agriculture Specialist/Offtg. Director, DOA and Mr. Karma Nidup, CEO, FCBI. The Indian side includes Secretary (Agriculture & Cooperation), Secretary (Department of Agricultural Research & Education), Secretary (Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries) and Joint Secretary (International Cooperation), Joint Secretary (Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries).
