Mahindra & Mahindra expands Zaheerabad facility

Mumbai: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd has inaugurated an extended manufacturing facility in Telangana where the company’s new small commercial vehicle code named P601, scheduled for launch in the first half of the current fiscal, will be made, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

The new facility at Zaheerabad is in addition to the existing one that makes 75,000 vehicles a year. Built with an investment of Rs.250 crore and an installed capacity to make 92,000 vehicles a year, the facility can be scaled up further to meet any additional demand, the company said.

The Zaheerabad plant will manufacture sub-one tonne commerical vehicles and will incude four-wheel load and passenger vehicles. This is in addition to the utility vehicles, light commercial vehicles and three-wheelers being manufactured from the plant.

The expansion will lead to more jobs, both direct and indirect, and will take the total employment to 3,500 workers across both automotive and tractor plants, the statement said. The company also has a tractor plant in Zaheerabad that was opened in 2013 and makes 3,500 tractors a month.

Besides Zaheerabad, the company has five more manufacturing plants in Mumbai, Chakan, Nasik, Igatpuri and Haridwar. It also has a research and development centre, Mahindra Research Valley, for the design and development of both automotive and farm equipment products.
