Raje takes Rs 2,229cr infra leap into future

Jaipur: With an eye on the 2018 state assembly elections, chief minister Vasundhara Raje laid the foundation stone for 14 infrastructure projects, worth about Rs 2,229 crore, in the city with Tata Group chairman Cyrus Mistry in tow.

At the event held at Birla Auditorium, Raje requested Mistry to complete the Dravyavati river rejuvenation project, being executed by the Tata Group, by August 2018, in time for her to showcase it before the voters just as her predecessor Ashok Gehlot had done with the Jaipur Metro. Expressing her faith in the company, Raje said, "The project could not have been successfully launched without the participation of Tata Group. The company has given October 2018 as the deadline for completing the project. A request has been made to complete the project before September."

On the occasion, Raje said that Dravyavati, a boon for Jaipur, has today become a polluted `nullah'. "Our government has initiated work to bring back the lost grandeur of this lifeline of Jaipur," the chief minister said.

The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), Tata Projects Ltd and Shanghai Urban Construction Group will complete this ambitious revival project worth Rs 1,676 crore.

Mistry, who was present at the ceremony, said, "Like the Central government's Namami Ganga project, we propose to revive Dravyavati in Rajasthan. The project will be replica model for other cities. It will reduce water pollution. The state's contribu tion in GDP in 14%, and we are committed to the growth of the state." Speaking on the occasion, urban development and housing (UDH) minister Rajpal Singh Shekhawat said that the government would clean and revive the dried up Dravyavati in such a way that it would "shine as a moon on Jaipur's forehead".

Other than the river rejuvenation scheme, she also laid the foundation stone through remote for the construction of projects such as the elevated road from LIC building to Sodala; RoBs at Sitapura, Dantli and Jahota; Engineering Staff Training Institute; expansion of bridge near World Trade Park; project for developing 100 parks; Kishanbagh and Galtagate forestry projects; 200 biodiversity forests; Silvan Park Phase-2; Global Centre of Excellence; Smart Solution Phase-2; light house and Shankara Eye Hospital.

"We do not just believe in dreaming, we are experts in fulfilling those dreams. The state has been mired in dirt for the last 60 years and, now, we have to work on the mission to clean this dirt and make Rajasthan a clean and shi ning state," she said. "The JDA was facing a financial crunch when we formed the government. But in the last two-and-a-half-years, development works worth Rs 4,252 crore have been sanctioned.Works worth Rs 1,500 crore have been completed till now.By 2018, Jaipur shall not only become a world class city but a city of wonder," added.
