Bengaluru: Wipro Ltd, India's third largest software services exporter, said on Tuesday that it would increase its headcount in Romania by 25 % to strengthen its presence in the eastern European region. It plans to raise its workforce to about 750 employees by December 2015.

The company, which also serves customers in other parts of eastern Europe, said it expects "significant traction" across service lines in Romania.

Wipro caters to retail and consumer goods, healthcare, manufacturing, telecom and other industries in the country.

Wipro, which reported a profit that fell short of analysts' estimates in its latest quarter, said it plans to invest in the eastern European region and sees it as a strategic delivery location for the company. In Romania, it already has development centres in Bucharest and Timisoara.

Wipro shares closed marginally down at Rs554.10 on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Tuesday while the benchmark index Sensex ended the day at 26,880.82—up 0.48%.
