According to the data released by Grant Thornton India, an accounting and consulting firm, the total merger and acquisitions (M&A) and private equity (PE) deals in the month of May 2015 were valued at US$ 3.2 billion (115 deals), which is 21 per cent higher in volume but 37 per cent lower in value as compared to May 2014.
Moreover, the total value of outbound deals (Indian companies acquiring businesses outside India) in May 2015 was US$ 380 million (8 deals). The total value of inbound deals (foreign companies or their subsidiaries acquiring Indian businesses) in May 2015 was valued at US$ 157 million (8 deals).
The total value of domestic deals in the month of May 2015 was US$ 648 million (30 deals) as compared to US$ 2,460 million (25 deals) during the corresponding period of 2014.
PE investment activity witnessed an increase in volume (58 per cent y-o-y) and value (48 per cent y-o-y) on account of four large deals - each valued at over US$ 100 million.
