The Indian Power Sector: Investments, Growth and Prospects The power sector consists of generation, transmission and distribution utilities and is a crucial component of India's infrastructure. India currently has the fifth largest electricity generation capacity in the world pegged at 192,792 megawatt (MW), the growth of the economy is expected to boost electricity demand in coming years. Therefore, it becomes essential to assess the power sector by analysing its current status, the key challenges faced by it, and its future growth drivers.
