India at Gulfood 2018 Dubai

About The Event

Gulfood is a major event for food trade in the Gulf region with more than 97,000 visitors and 1 million sq ft of exhibition space in its previous edition in 2017. In 2018, the event is expecting participation from more than 5,000 exhibitors across 8 sectors: beverages, dairy, fats & oils, health, wellness, free-from, pulses, grains, cereals, meat & poultry, world food (country pavilions showcasing niche and speciality producers) and power brands (one-stop-shop for multiple product categories).

The food industry in the GCC region (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait) has seen a CAGR of 4.2% in terms of consumption, led by cereals (source: Alpen Capital). Factors driving this growth include “favorable demographics, changing dietary habits and preferences, rising tourist arrivals, increasing penetration of organized retail formats such as hypermarkets and supermarkets” according to Rohit Walia, Executive Chairman at Alpen Capital. India @ Gulfood 2018

India is represented by exporters from the agricultural, horticultural, processed food (led by APEDA) and tea (led by Tea Board) sectors in Gulfood Dubai, February 18-22, 2018; under the aegis of the Department of Commerce, Government of India. IBEF is branding partner for the event.
Some of the prominent Indian agri-products represented at the event are basmati rice, cereals, fruits and vegetables, bovine meat, organic food, tea, honey, processed and ready to eat products.

Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA)

APEDA was established by the Government of India under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act passed by the Parliament in December, 1985. APEDA is mandated with the responsibility of export promotion and development of a wide range of agricultural and processed food products including Fruits, Vegetables and their Products, Meat and Meat Products, Poultry and Poultry Products, Dairy Products, Confectionery, Biscuits and Bakery Products, Honey, Jaggery and Sugar Products, Cocoa and its products, chocolates of all kinds, Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Cereal and Cereal Products, Groundnuts, Peanuts and Walnuts, Pickles, Papads and Chutneys, Guar Gum, Floriculture and Floriculture Products, Herbal and Medicinal Plants. Basmati Rice has been included in the Second Schedule of APEDA Act.

Tea Board of India

Tea Board India is a body corporate under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, set up by an Act of Parliament in 1953. Tea Board India has wide functions and responsibilities for development of the tea industry, export promotion, domestic generic promotion, R&D activities, licensing, labour welfare activities, compilation of statistical data etc.  It is a facilitator of the Indian Tea industry and looks after various matters pertaining to the industry.
