'Airtel Wi-Fi Calling' crosses One million users

Bharti Airtel’s calling feature, ‘Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi)’, which was launched in December, has crossed 1 million users and operators has rolled-out the service to Airtel users across India, telco stated on Friday.

The Airtel Users can easily access this technology across any home or public Wi-Fi network to enhance the indoor voice calling experience. VoWiFi enable users to make an outgoing call even at the poorest cellular connectivity. The technology also allows the customers to make telco grade calls to any network without paying the extra charges or additional calling App/SIM.

Mr Randeep Sekhon, CTO-Bharti Airtel stated in a statement, “The technology has truly transformed the indoor network quality for Airtel mobile customers, particularly in high population density areas in urban markets. Airtel is also the first to make the service LIVE across India and our customers can use the feature on any Wi-Fi”.

Telco said, over 100 smartphones models across 16 brands including Xiaomi, Samsung, OnePlus, Apple, Vivo, Micromax etc are compatible with Airtel Wi-Fi calling.

Reliance Jio also launched its pan-India voice and video calling feature over WiFi which is compatible with 150 smartphone models.
