India has delivered BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines as part of a US$ 375 million agreement signed in 2022. Transported by the Indian Air Force's C-17 Globemaster aircraft, the weapon systems were handed over to the Philippines' Marine Corps, reflecting heightened tensions in the South China Sea amid frequent clashes with China. The Philippines plans to deploy the BrahMos missile systems along its coastal areas to bolster regional security.
The deal, approved by partner nations, underscores the success of the BrahMos missile program, a joint venture between India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyeniya. Regarded as one of the world's most successful missile programs, BrahMos enhances India's deterrence capabilities as a swift and precise weapon. Since 2007, the Indian Army has integrated multiple BrahMos regiments into its arsenal, further solidifying India's defence capabilities and strategic posture in the region.
