The recently built tunnel will help in reducing the travel time by 5 hours. At present, the normal travel time taken by goods train from Krishnapatnam Port to Obulavaripalli is 10 hrs.

The development of this tunnel made ready to work freight trains in Obulavaripalli - Venkatachalam - Krishnapatnam Port new railway line for a separation of 113 Kms. The section is currently notified for commercial freight activities also. This new line encourages direct and viable connectivity between South Coast and West Coast.
