According to GVK-AAI (Airports Authority of India) run Mumbai Airport, passenger traffic to London from Mumbai is expected to rise about 27 per cent this fiscal year. This comes after there was resumption of services on the route by the Virgin Atlantic last Sunday.

Virgin Atlantic, the British carrier, relaunched its non-stop daily flight services to India's financial hub from London from 27th October, in order to capture demand in the time of grounding of Jet Airways. The carrier had stopped flying to this route in January 2016.

Jet Airways had been operating three daily flights on the Mumbai-London route before ending all operations in April 2019.

The first flight of Virgin Atlantic operated by a 256- seater Boeing 787, arrived in the city from London Heathrow on 28th October, Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), the operator of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), said in a release.

"CSMIA through this introduction will approximately see 27 per cent boost in passenger traffic to London from Mumbai," the airport operator said.
The two other airlines flying between the cities are National carrier Air India and British Airways.

According to MIAL, the Mumbai Airport now operates 33 flights per week and the passenger traffic stands at over 1,500 passenger per day between the UK capital and India's financial capital after the launch of new flight services.

It also added that in the previous fiscal year which ended in March 2019, over 5.50 lakh passengers travelled on the Mumbai-London-Mumbai route.
