Nokia, the Finnish telecom gear maker has collaborated with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru to set up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in order to facilitate research in the areas of networked robotics.

The research facility is expected to support interdisciplinary studies in robotics, 5G and AI, as well as other cutting-edge communication technologies. Additionally, the CoE will also develop use cases for disaster management, agribusiness, and industrial automation.

“The collaboration will enable us to explore new frontiers for advanced technology research to benefit society as well as provide state-of-the-art training to our students to enable them to become technology leaders in the coming decades”, said Professor Govindan Rangarajan, Director, IISc.

Nokia will fund the CoE for three consecutive years in order to sustain the first phase of the partnership between Nokia and IISc.
