According to the data released by Grant Thornton India, an accounting and consulting firm, the total merger and acquisitions (M&A) and private equity (PE) deals in the month of April 2012 were valued at US$ 2.6 billion (99 deals).
Moreover, the total value of outbound deals (Indian companies acquiring businesses outside India) in April 2012 were US$ 0.4 billion (7 deals). The total value of inbound deals (foreign companies or their subsidiaries acquiring Indian companies) in April 2012 were valued at US$ 1.1 billion (21 deals).
The total value of domestic deals and internal restructuring deals in April 2012 were US$ 0.5 billion (32 deals) as compared to US$ 0.2 billion (25 deals) during the corresponding month in 2011.
The top 5 M&A sectors were identified as FMCG, Food & Beverages, Banking & Financial Services, Retail, Oil & Gas and Real Estate.
