Beyond Borders: IBEF’s Quarterly Export Branding Insights

Elevating Exports, Expanding Horizons

India's export ecosystem keeps demonstrating its resilience and adaptability in the constantly changing global trade environment. Backed by the strong manufacturing base, advanced digital competencies, various policy initiatives and integration in global value chains, Indian exporters continue to bolster their international presence. In addition to key drivers like quality and competitiveness, digital commerce, consumer engagement and proper market positioning now also play an increasingly important role in shaping the story of Indian exports.

This momentum has been reinforced by a significant recent policy push: in July 2026, the DGFT launched the Global Outreach for Branding, Labelling and Export Packaging initiative under the Export Promotion Mission (EPM) – Niryat Disha. The initiative aims to strengthen ‘Brand India’ globally through a Unified Brand India Framework, supporting sector-specific branding, international marketing, compliant packaging, labelling and digital promotion. The initial rollout covers 10 priority sectors, including food processing, textiles and apparel, leather and footwear, handicrafts and GI products, pharmaceuticals, engineering and automotive, gems and jewellery, and cosmetics.

In the age of increasingly connected global markets and rising consumer demands, exporters seek ways to move away from standard trade solutions and build robust international brands. Digital commerce platforms have emerged as efficient instruments for improving market visibility, allowing exporters to interact directly with consumers, highlight their distinctive products and create valuable brand equity. At the same time, unique product storytelling and consumer experience are the competitive advantages that help Indian products differentiate themselves in international markets.

This issue of Beyond Borders discusses these new aspects of the Indian export ecosystem. The featured article is devoted to ways for Indian exporters to leverage the potential of digital commerce platforms for improving their global brand visibility and building a larger international presence. The Industry Trends segment highlights the growing role of the consumer experience and product storytelling for making Brand India stronger. The Commodity Export Insights offer an overview of export prospects in the pharmaceuticals and electronics industries.

In addition, this edition of the newsletter includes two case studies about Carraro India Limited and INOX India Limited and how these companies manage to be globally competitive through innovation, technology adoption and expansion.
