Brocade Communications commits $300 mn addl investment in India

Bengaluru: Storage and networking solutions provider Brocade Communications Systems on Wednesday said it would invest $300 million (Rs 1,870 crore) in India over the next five years. The new investment would be primarily used to bolster the company’s focus on driving networking innovation and deepening the California-headquartered company partnership with the broader ecosystem in India.

“India is one of their key markets globally and we look at expanding our business here with a focus on developing networking innovations based on the New Intellectual Property (IP) and partnerships in India,” said Jason Nolet, Senior Vice-President, Switching, Routing and Analytics Products Group at Brocade. The new IP initiative works on an open architecture system and works on a commodity hardware. A company can combine the software and hardware together which provides flexibility that increases the options to innovate.

Besides, the company is also looking at deepening its relationship with the start-up ecosystem in the country. “The robust start-up ecosystem in the country that has brought in a number of opportunities in the data centre and networking space,” Nolet added. The company also inaugurated its new campus here on Wednesday. This new centre is part of the $400-million (Rs 2,493 crore) investment that Brocade has already made in India to date, since inception of operations in the country in 2006.

With the new investment commitment, the cumulative of the company in India will total $700 million by 2020.

Recently, Brocade has acquired two start-ups — Vistapointe and Connectum – which will help it to expand base in India.

The company presently has about 4,000 employees worldwide of which around 800 are located in India.

The company has a strong customer base in India, including of Micromax, Videocon, Geojit BNP Paribas and Reliance Big. It has also partnered with Intel to develop products.

With improved business prospects and a more investor-friendly environment, many companies are setting up there campuses in Bengaluru. On Tuesday, American IT company VMware opened its $120-million campus in the city and on Wednesday Morgan Stanley inaugurated a back-office that can accomodate 1,400-employees.
