Little Millet
Little Millet (Panicummiliare) is grown throughout India and is a traditional crop. It is a relative of proso millet but the seeds of little millet are much smaller than proso millet. it is also called Moraiyo, Kutki, Shavan, and Sama.

Based on the proposal of India, supported by 72 countries, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets.

The government of India has taken a lead and is organizing IYOM-2023 at the domestic and International levels to make it a people's movement so that the Indian millets and its value-added products are popularized globally.

Objectives of IYOM 2023:

  • Awareness of the contribution of millet to Food Security and Nutrition.
  • Inspire stakeholders to improve sustainable production and quality of millets.
  • Focus on enhanced investment in research and development and extension services to achieve the above objectives.

Agricultural And Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA)

APEDA was established by the Government of India under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act passed by the Parliament in December 1985.
