India’s share in global services exports has been steadily rising for the last two decades. India ranks seventh globally, representing a 4.3% share in the global services export. It accounts for over 50% of the GDP of India. The services sector in India comprises trade, tourism, aviation, telecom, shipping, ports, communication and storage, financing, insurance, transportation, real estate, business services, software services, IT-BPM, etc.
The robust GDP growth in FY26 (April-June 2025) was primarily driven by the services sector, which expanded 9.3%. All key components, trade, hotels, transport, communication, broadcasting-related services, financial, real estate and professional services, as well as public administration, defence, and other services, demonstrated strong upward momentum, significantly contributing to the overall economic expansion. Overall, job creation in the Services sector has increased to 36% in the last decade.
