Cinepolis to touch 400 screens mark by 2017 in India

VADODARA: Mexican multiplex chain — Cinepolis - is planning to touch the 400 screens landmark in India by 2017.

The multiplex chain which is aiming to clock Rs 1,200 crore turnover from its Indian operations, will also pump in around Rs 1,200 crore to increase its screen count in India.

"We are the first international multiplex chain to start operations in Vadodara. We have operated 18 screens in Gujarat - the highest in any state in India. This is a key territory in our overall growth plans of reaching the 400 screen landmark by 2017," Javier Sotomayor, managing director of Cinepolis India said while interacting with media persons on Tuesday.

The company on Tuesday announced the launch of its six screen multiplex in Vadodara at Inorbit Mall. The multiplex at Vadodara is Cinepolis' third property in Gujarat after Ahmedabad and Surat.

"The all-digital, Real D 3-D equipped multiplex will feature more than 30 shows every day and will have a seating capacity of close to 1,000. With this launch, Cinepolis will be operating 96 screens in India and is all set to be the fastest to reach the 100 screen landmark through organic growth," said Ashish Shukla, director- expansion of Cinepolis India.

"We will be opening another 41 screens before the close of year crossing our 100 screen landmark including three megaplexes," said Shukla.

Founded in 1971, privately held Cinepolis having its headquarters in Morelia, Mexico started its operations in India in 2009 at Amritsar. It operates 400 cinemas with 3,500 screens in 11 countries.
