Civil Aviation Minister directs officials to improve maintenance at Chennai Airport

New Delhi: The Minister of Civil Aviation, Shri Ashok Gajapathi Raju Pusapati held a meeting today with the Secretary, Civil Aviation, Chairman and Senior Officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to review the performance of the Chennai International Airport, especially in view of the complaints received regarding poor upkeep and lack of facilities at the Airport. As per the orders of the Minister, Senior Officers of the Ministry of Civil Aviation conducted a surprise check on 18th July, 2014 at the Chennai International Airport.

The Minister expressed concern against the state of affairs and has stressed upon the need to provide proper hygienic conditions and amenities to the passengers, as required in an International Airport. He has directed the officials to take all possible measures to improve the conditions and bring them up to the international standards within a month. He has also informed that he would visit the Airport in the near future, to personally take stock of the situation.
