Commerce Ministry allows bulk export of rice bran oil

New Delhi: The Ministry of Commerce has allowed bulk export of rice bran oil, which has limited domestic demand and will help small rice millers realise better pricing through exports. The ministry has also removed quantity ceiling on export of organic edible oils. Last month the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) had decided on this matter. Exports of edible oil have been prohibited since March 17, 2008, as India has large domestic demand for oil (10 million tonnes or 60 per cent of domestic demand) and is a major importer. However, the Central government allows certain exemptions under specific circumstances.
