Karnataka has the most job opportunities in India: Assocham study

Bengaluru: More job opportunities are getting reported in Karnataka than anywhere else in India, according to a study released on Monday by apex industry body Assocham (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry).

About 216,000 out of the total 900,000 job vacancies reported in the country between January and March 2016 were in Karnataka, according to the study.

Karnataka was followed by Maharashtra (200,000 vacancies), Tamil Nadu (93,000), the combined region that comes under Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (82,000) and Haryana (72,000).

The study by Assocham’s Economic Research Bureau analyses data sourced primarily from vacancies posted by companies on various job portals.

Job vacancy advertisements published in national and regional dailies across India were also analysed for the study, said Assocham.

The majority of openings were in the information technology (IT) sector, where Karnataka is ahead of other states.

The IT sector accounted for about 57% of the total job openings, followed by services (19%), manufacturing (11%), banking, financial services and insurance (just over 8% each), and construction and real estate (nearly 3.5% each).

Out of the roughly 500,000 jobs on offer in the IT sector, about 28% were reported in Karnataka, whose capital Bengaluru is considered India’s IT hub.

However, as per the study, the IT sector emerges as the only strength of Karnataka in creating jobs, whereas states such as Maharashtra are creating jobs in a wide range of sectors.

Maharashtra is second when it comes to the IT sector; in all other major job creating sectors—services, manufacturing, construction and real estate—Maharashtra holds the lion’s share of employment opportunities getting reported, as per the study.
