VE Commercial Vehicles set to export Eicher trucks

Bengaluru: VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), the six-year-old 50:50 joint venture between Sweden’s Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Limited, is working with its partner, Volvo to develop products for export markets.

The company is currently in the process of exporting its made-in-India light and medium commercial vehicles or LCVs to select markets in West Asia, South Asia and Africa.

“Currently, our products are undergoing homologation tests in these countries and we hope to launch our new trucks under both, Eicher and Volvo brands later this year,” said Shyam Maller, senior vice-president, sales & marketing, VECV.

The company plans to export Eicher Pro 1000 and Pro 3000 series trucks in these markets. “We are working with our partner Volvo to identify which truck to be marketed under Volvo and Eicher brands. To begin with, we will export Pro 1000 and 3000 series trucks. In the second phase, we will export Pro 6000 and Pro 8000 series trucks. Already, Volvo in Thailand sells Pro 6000 series trucks under the UD brand. We will take a decision in this connection very soon,” Maller told Business Standard.

He said the company, which witnessed 16 per cent contraction in sales in the domestic market during the first six months (January-June) of this year, is largely dependent on export sales to grow.
