According to the data released by Grant Thornton India, an accounting and consulting firm, the total merger and acquisitions (M&A), and private equity (PE) deals in the month of November 2012 were valued at US$ 10.11 billion (91 deals) as compared to US$ 1.95 billion (109 deals) and US$ 4.33 billion (61 deals) in the corresponding month of 2011 and 2010 respectively.

Moreover, the total value of outbound deals (Indian companies acquiring businesses outside India) in November 2012 was US$ 6.74 billion (15 deals) as compared to US$ 0.73 billion (10 deals) and US$ 1.94 billion (16 deals) during the corresponding month in 2011 and 2010 respectively. The total value of inbound deals (foreign companies or their subsidiaries acquiring Indian businesses) in November 2012 were valued at US$ 2.14 billion (12 deals) as compared to US$ 0.62 billion (18 deals) and US$ 1.51 billion (12 deals) during the corresponding month in 2011 and 2010 respectively.

The total value of domestic deals in the month of November 2012 were US$ 0.70 billion (16 deals) as compared to US$ 0.13 billion (26 deals) and US$ 0.45 billion (8 deals) during the corresponding month in 2011 and 2010 respectively.

The top 5 M&A sectors were identified as Oil and Gas, Breweries and Distilleries, Plastic and Chemicals, Pharma, Healthcare and Biotech, and Banking and Financial Services.
