70% Indian auto sales to be digitally influenced by 2020: Bain & Co, Facebook study

New Delhi: About 70 per cent of the total automobile sales in India, worth US$ 40 billion, will be digitally influenced by 2020 as against US$ 18 billion currently, as per a joint report titled 'Changing Gears 2020: How Digital is Transforming the Face of the Automotive Industry' by Bain&Company and Facebook. Digital engineering, 3D printing, smart sensors and internet of things (IoT) are expected to disrupt the automobile value chain. About 40 per cent of the sales, worth US$ 23 billion will be influenced by social media by 2020 as against 20 per cent currently. By 2020, about 40 per cent of consumers will go online to book repair and maintenance services as against 14 per cent currently, and about 30 per cent will buy vehicle accessories online as against 8 per cent currently.
