India chapter to execute sustainability agenda of cement industry launched by GCCA

The Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) on Tuesday propelled its India chapter with an aim to execute the manageability agenda of the domestic cement industry which is the second biggest concrete producing industry in the world.

As a part of GCCA's key association with the World Business Council on Sustainable Development, GCCA India will assume the obligations of the Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI) India formerly served as the sector’s sustainability alliance.

"As India is a critical market cement producing capacity and with population growth, and the developing interest and requirement for safe homes and key infrastructure, cement and concrete are clearly going to play a significant role in future development of country. It's particularly the of GCCA India to help ensure that this is undertaken in a sustainable manner".

India is home to in excess of 500 million tonne cement producing capacity and another 20 million tonne capacity is relied upon to get included until FY2021. This makes balancing production with relieving the adverse effects that it causes more significant than any other time in recent memory as environmental damage encompassing us declines as time passes.

GCCA India will build up a work program that will concentrate on the more extensive worldwide GCCA priorities but with practical application application over the Indian built environment. It's priorities will include promoting best practices in the regions of safety, production and utilization of concrete and cement in the built environment, advancing principles of a circular economy across  the value chain and encouraging innovation in the cement making and concrete areas such that makes a positive contribution to sustainable development.
