India has officially entered the competition to create a fifth-generation stealth combat aircraft, but it will have to make up ground compared to countries like Turkey and South Korea, which are ahead, while the US, China, and Russia already have and are strengthening their stealth jet fleets. On March 7, the Cabinet Committee on Security approved the plan to design and produce the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), a fifth-generation medium-weight stealth fighter jet. The project, valued at around US $ 1.81 billion (Rs. 15,000 crore), is being undertaken by the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO).

The DRDO's Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) will collaborate with various private and public sector organizations to develop the stealth jet and its related technology. According to government sources cited by ANI, approximately five prototypes will be constructed over a period of five years. These prototypes will be manufactured by industry players, including the public sector entity Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
