As India plans to almost triple its clean-power capacity by 2030, India revealed a US$ 29.6 billion (Rs. 2.44 trillion) plan to develop transmission lines to connect renewable production.

This project aims to connect the solar plants in the deserts of Rajasthan and Gujarat to the Tamil Nadu wind farms, improving India’s inter-regional transmission capacity from 112 gigawatts to 150 gigawatts. Renewable power in India has been constrained by a shortage of transmission lines. This gap has to be filled when the country sets out on its journey to net zero by 2070 so that clean power can reach urban and industrial areas that are frequently far from generation sources.

Currently, there is a generation capacity of 173 gigawatts from non-fossil fuel sources, nevertheless, India plans to nearly triple it to 500 gigawatts by 2030. The transmission strategy calls for the construction of transformers, the installation of high-voltage lines, and the laying of undersea cables to transport electricity generated by offshore wind farms.

On the National Portal, which was launched by Honourable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi on July 30, 2022, a list of registered vendors is also available.
