Light Metro project worth US$ 1.07 billion approved for two cities in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Light Metro transport schemes proposed for the cities of Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode. The sanction of the centre is still required for the follow up action of the project to be initiated. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 6,728 crore (US$ 1.07 billion), which will be partly funded by the state and central government at 20 per cent each, and rest 60 per cent by loans. The state government will pay the expenses for land acquisition. The project will cover around 22.2 km from Technocity near Pallipuram to Karamana with 19 stations. Just like it was in the case of Kochi Metro, services of Delhi Metro would be utilized for implementing the project .
