According to the latest figures (till March 2, 2023) of the Ministry of Coal, India’s coal production exclusively from captive/commercial mines has crossed 100 million tonnes (MT) for the first time.
The greatest ever single day production of coal from captive/commercial coal blocks was 5.09 lakh tonnes on March 2, 2023.
Up until February, 2023, captive/commercial coal mine production grew by 29.8% over FY22. The coal ministry anticipates producing more than 112 million tonnes from captive/commercial coal areas in 2022–2031, a rise of about 31% from the previous year.
Furthermore, four new coal mines have started production in FY23, and two other coal mines will start production this month.
