In 2023, Mizoram welcomed over 196,000 tourists, comprising 193,445 domestic and 3,435 foreign visitors. Americans led the foreign contingent, followed by tourists from Japan, Australia, Israel, Canada, and the UK. The state's tourism growth is fuelled by its 'responsible' tourism policy, emphasizing sustainable development and community engagement.

Previously, foreign visitors to Mizoram needed a Protected Area Permit (PAP), but this requirement has been suspended, except for nationals from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and China. However, registration at the Foreigner Registration Office in Aizawl remains mandatory within 24 hours of arrival, facilitating tourism while ensuring oversight.
