Mr. Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Food and Consumer Affairs and Textiles, and Mr. Dan Tehan, Australia's Minister for Trade, Tourism, and Investment, met this week to fast-track the bilateral Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) negotiations.

The Ministers acknowledged the progress made in previous rounds of talks between the chief negotiators of both parties during a video conference on December 21, 2021 and addressed the path forward to reach an early conclusion of an interim agreement. In this context, both Ministers praised the progress made in bilateral trade talks, and both have resolved to deepen their engagement and have instructed the officials to expedite negotiations in order to pave the path for a full agreement.

The Ministers agreed that a balanced trade deal that benefits both their economies and people is in the works, and that it reflects their shared commitment to a rules-based international trading system.
