Welingkar signs agreements with two Israeli universities

Bengaluru: Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research (WeSchool) today signed two MOUs with Israeli universities, pledging cooperation in the fields of study of technology, agriculture, archaeology, biology, among others. These include exchanges at all levels: from students to senior faculty members.

WeSchool signed agreements with Israel’s University of Haifa and IDC Herzliya, in the presence of Israeli president Reuvin Rivlin and Union minister for human resource development Prakash Javadekar.

The agreement with the University of Haifa paves the way for academic collaboration, streamlining the exchange of scholars, joint research projects, joint teaching and supervision of students, as well as participation in workshops and conferences. The focus remains on giving students the best and relevant global exposure. The one with IDC Herzliya will focus on entrepreneurship, innovation and boosting the startup ecosystem. The Israeli President highlighted the need of excellence and quality in research along with the need for modern facilities and international collaborations. Pointing out the growing number of Indian scholars in Israel, he said almost 10 percent of the foreign students in the country are Indians. Rivlin said the agreements mark a new step in the growing partnership between the two countries. “Living in an era of globalization, along with opportunities we share some common concerns too. It will be prudent to join hands, gain from each other’s strengths and deal with issues of concern,” said Uday Salunkhe, group director of WeSchool. India and Israel have shared diplomatic relations for almost two and half decades. Israel is not only India’s partner in countering terror but has also pledged support to its ‘Make in India’ campaign. The two nations have already signed a number of agreements in the space of water resource management and agriculture. Israel also supports India’s claim for a permanent seat in UN Security Council.

Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research is an established B-school with campuses in Mumbai and Bengaluru. Last year, the institute had signed MoUs with three other Israeli universities - Tel Aviv University, Ben Gurion University of the Negev and IDC Herzliya.
