The rollout of the 5G services is expected to bring a boost in the employment of the country. It is expected to attract 80,000 direct jobs and Rs. 3 lakh crore (US$ 36.41 billion) in investment.
The Indian Telecommunication Bill 2022, which attempts to modify existing regulations and consolidate them, has been released by the government.
The telecom department is discussing with the industry and opposition leaders about all issues, including the regulator's concerns about some of the bill's provisions.
Only light-touch regulation will be available to OTT communication players, according to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). BSNL is expected to roll out its 4G services by January 2023 and its 5G services by August of the following year.
